ABOUT THE FESTIVALFounded in the early 1920 and presenting only 3 dances - Waltz, Two Step and Foxtrot, 89 years later Blackpool Dance Festival has turned into one of the most prestigious dance competitions in the World. In the past few years, the Blackpool Dance Festival has been attracting thousands of professional and amateur couples from more than 50 countries, mostly from USA, Italy, Germany, USA and Russia.
Held in the city of Blackpool, England,The Blackpool Dance Festival is presently considered the largest ballroom competition in the World.
It covers "Ballroom" ( International Standard) and "Latin American" ( International Latin). In 2005 new categories were included in the competition program : Rising Star Amateur Ballroom and Latin. All competitions danced at the Blackpool dance Festival are : " Professional Ballroom", " Professional Latin", "Under 21 Ballroom" , " Under 21 Ballroom" , " Exhibition", " Amateur Latin" , " Amateur Ballroom", " Senior Latin", " Senior Standard" , " Team Match", " Professional Rising Star Latin" & " Professional Rising Star Ballroom".
In 2008, 1863 couples, 3 Ballroom Formation Team, 8 Latin Formation Teams and 7 Exhibition couples from 68 countries took part in the nine-day festival.

It offers entertainment and hundreds of attractions to more than half million tourists who visit it every year and is also home of the World largest ballroom competition - the Blackpool Dance Festival.
ABOUT THE BALLROOMBlackpool Dance Festival takes place every year at the Blackpool " Winter Gardens" - a one-of-a-kind venue that holds one of the largest theatre stage in the World - " Empress Ballroom" . Winter Gardens is one of the Britain's most historic buildings, comprising 12 different venues, each with their own unique style.
Empress Ballroom has a 12,500 sq.ft dance floor, covered with mahogany, walnut and greenwood, barrel-vaulted ceiling, chandeliers and ornate balconies .The seating capacity of the ballroom is 1,900 (with many more standing-only tickets) and up until 1980 there used to be a box dedicated to foreign visitors, although the influx of foreign competitors and spectators meant that this became impractical. Today the Empress Ballroom not only hosts the dance festival, but political party conferences, exhibitions and pop concerts.
